The God of the Struggle.

Writer's picture: Geraldo Alonso IIGeraldo Alonso II

We all believe in the God of miracles. That idea of a God that will rescue us when things are tough. The instant coffee variety of God that will fix what is lacking. The one we go to only when we are in trouble. I've heard people describe this god as the "grocery store god". We only go there when we need something. Seriously... who hangs out at the grocery store for fun?! Those stores exists to cover our necessities and wants. I'm working on believing in the God of the struggle. And it isn't easy. I'm working on worshiping God because He deserves it. My happiness, my pleasure, my wealth, my emotional state, my societal status and my economic measurements should not dictate whether or not I worship HIM. I worship Him because He is God. I worship Him because He merits it. I am choosing to not turn my back on Him because life isn't going as my brain dictates or my heart feels. I'm working on believing in the God of the struggle. The God that is with me in my miseries and challenges. The God that sustains me through every hurdle I face. The God that is long suffering and faithful. I will not only worship God through the good times. I will worship Him through the hard times too. Grace and Peace! G.
